Wiring relays


The relay branches are dry-contact switching elements. The device switches the load; per-channel overcurrent protection and the isolation means must be provided by the installation.

Nature of the relay branches

The Smartive Server contains six mechanical dry-contact relay branches. The relay outputs are documented for 230 VAC switching, but the device remains a switching element: appropriate external overcurrent protection and isolation are part of the installation.

230 VAC wiring conditions

The following conditions must be met on every relay channel:

The Smartive relay branch switches, but channel protection is provided by the external OCPD.
  • max. 10 A @ 230 VAC/channel
  • an external circuit breaker or fuse rated at no more than 10 A per channel
  • installation in a closed electrical or control cabinet
  • mounting and service only in a de-energized state
  • an external isolation point is required for critical loads
The relay is a functional switching element. If a relay contact sticks or welds, the load may remain live. The installation must handle this with external isolation and appropriate overcurrent protection.

Setup in the app

Then add the device in the Smartive app when adding a new device as follows:

  • In the Device Model field, select the GPIO Output option.
  • If the device is connected to the central unit, after selecting Onboard GPIO pin select the port number on the central unit cover.
  • If the UTP cable connects to an expander, after selecting the I2C expander option enter the port number on the expander.
  • Selecting the HIGH option tells the system to switch the relay on a high signal level.
